I'd say the hip flexor focus is more to do with injury prevention and confidence in flexibility. Kicking and certain positions on the ground can cause a lot of strain in that region. Would you agree? Im not certain btw, just my thoughts :)

I meant that they think they're training their midsection by doing situps/leg raises from all these angles and contraptions to strengthen their "core" when they're in fact doing nothing but strengthening their hip flexors which for this purpose are completely useless.
