The title "Mother of God" or Theotakos, implies that she bore the Son of God into a human life into this world. The Lord can do anything and could have come to this world without a mother, made a flesh for himself, and redeemed mankind another way. But as Christians, we believe he chose the Virgin to become his throne to bear him into this world and so he redeems mankind as a man. Original sin is another separate issue that deals with the mistaken theology from Augustine of Hippo.

I can understand what you mean, and I understand what Catholics mean by Mother of God, however i would rather not call Mary that, I would definately never call her any of the other titles which frustrate me more than Mother of God. However I can let others believe what they want, the reason I speak out against the Catholic idea of Mary is because I am tired of being accused of hating her and of being a heretic simply for not wanting to conform to man made rules of the church.

There is a theological reason that Mary is called the Mother of God. Nestorius argued that Mary was the mother of Christ and not God. To imply that she only bore the human person of Christ would be a division of the unity of the Son of God's nature. She bore Him who was fully God and fully Man. Some catholic titles have gone too far in recent history, which is why the Orthodox Church believes they contradict Christian theology. I would like to discuss this issue more with you if you like.

Yes I would like to discuss it further- feel free to message me. It depends on what you mean by the term mother, being somebodies parent represents not just unconditional love and care but your authority and control over your child- as well as your superiority to them. Thus the term mother of God seems to apply a superiority of Mary to Jesus the Son and an equality to God the Father. I feel like carrier or bearer of God would be more appropriate however even then, we can't deny that...

(Continued)... God chose to come into this world as a man- so if you picture God the Father- in his invisible form in heaven you'll agree with me that Mary didn't carry this full force, she carried the manifestation of it as a human. Christ states he was around before Abraham and was eternal- therefore he came into Mary- she didn't bring him into her. Nevertheless I don't have a major problem with people who choose to use this title- I just would rather not use it. But do message me to talk.

Christology is important in this case. Mary's role is in the Incarnation of the Word, not the creation of a new person. I believe you're making a division where it does not belong. To say that Mary is only mother of the human Jesus is like saying that someone's mother is only mother of one's body and not one's soul.
