something similar has been already developped for google android by a german team called enkin. check out their demo at enkin(dot)net

even though they entered the google challenge, enkin is not among the top50 apps because they've actually been contacted by Google separately, and chances are they will buy the company soon.

conclusion: this feature will be available sooner than you think, and chances are it'll be on android even before iphone.
