As a belgian, i can say Nilis had a superb technique in free kicks or finishing in general, a nose for goals, and always a nice way to make them. But saying he's the best Belgian player ever is exaggerated knowing we had players like Van Himst, Braine, Jurion, Ceulemans, Verbiest, Gerets,..... But offcourse alot of those names was long time ago :)

For me this was by far the best player ever seen, I can't remember him scoring stupid goals,it were all beauties...specialist in free-kicks,volley's and his vista was legendary, if he had more speed then he would have played for the super-top-clubs, in Holland he was more appreciated then in Belgium, and if there was a special game with a world-selection he was the only belgian invitated...really class-player, I miss him a lot....

Too bad the Villa fans didn't get the chance to see what he really was about

such superb technique, along with Preud'homme my favourite Belgian player ever. A few weeks after this goal, Nilis' career was ended forever by a goalkeeper's tackle.

it wasnt really a tackle, i remember him just kicking against the goalkeepers legs, it looked so bad though, it was like his shin wrapped around the goalkeepers leg :/ 0.0 looks disgusting
he was well over 30 wen it happened though, so at least he had a fairly long career

The goallie charged out and broke his leg. It is an injury that would cost a player no more than 4 months these days, but unfortunately back then it was end of carreer.
