I work in the industry, in the past turbines haven't been as effective as they could have been and yes in the past some of them were noisey. NOT ANYMORE These days the turbines are sleek, efficient and can generate a staggering amount of electricity. The fluctuations in power with varying wind speeds are cancelled by smart grid control and people won't have flickering lights or anything similar. As for the alternatives? Solar is too expensive, fossil fuels run out and nuclear has toxic waste.

they are the most horrendous eyesore to our beautiful countryside.... they are not producing enough energy.....

@TechnoEngineer, people who make their living altering and despoiling nature are a soulless lot. Wind turbines take up far too much land and ruin skylines and cause debilitating noise, shadow flicker, and scare off wildlife. The evidence for their downsides is overwhelming at this point.

@okstate790, that's a false choice.
Wind is extremely inefficient and intermittent per acre of land desecrated. Turbine-pushers falsely present the options as ONLY wind vs. fossil fuels, but there are many other options like solar (low profile, on existing rooftops) and nuclear (much greater energy density vs. turbines). Turbines also have to be backed up with fossil or nuclear plants anyhow.
Those who have no qualms about destroying natural landscapes cannot rightly call themselves "green."

@FelixCulpa81, if you really live "next" to turbines and have nothing but praise, "next" is probably several miles and you probably don't respect nature much anyhow.

4:23 If you support wind power (like me) you should be very afraid. THEY'VE GOT WOGAN!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!
I didn't realise his expertise extended from the Eurovision Song Contest to Climate Change/Energy.

Wind turbines are more sexy than a power station

Would you rather have a coal powered plant in your backyard that emits thousands of tons of mercury, arsenic and carbon dioxide into the air every year?

It really makes me laugh whenever I hear that "environmentalists want us to return to a pre-industrial age".
It these NIMBY/BANANA folk who are actually taking us there!

We now have 30 years' experience of large-scale wind - it has been a hugely expensive failure in every case.
Check out the figures in Denmark, Germany California etc. etc.
Texas is now going the same way. T Boone Pickens admits they are ugly and won't have them on his land, but is going to carpet the state with tens of thousands of the things funded by the tax dollars of the gullible masses.
Lets just turn off the lights on these "not in my back yard" people. I live next to 9 turbines, they are graceful and quiet, i love them.
Notice how many old people there are..they will be dead when we run out of fossil fuels and YES we will run out!!
When will people believe it, when the electric goes off???
