To clarify to everyone, it is a steel ball being dropped into sand. The sand is heated to about 500 degrees C, at which point is takes on this weird fluid behaviour.

It seems to me this is done in vacuum. Sand wouldn't fall so fast in atmosphere.

Like a few knowledgeable comments before this, it is a steel ball dropped into sand to display how the sand clumps together almost like water due not to viscosity but to something else, and i just forgot what that was...but it's sand, and a steel ball...
