Hornby live steam start up demo

It was suggested to me that a video showing the procedure for starting a live steamer from cold would be useful. This is the result. It's not very good but I think it shows what you need to do. ...

Ummm... I don't think so. Computers I can live with, like the sound chips in the DCC models, but liquids, electricity, tiny real steam pistons? Surely that's asking for trouble when they start to get a bit old. I'll wait a bit and see.....

Yes, that will slow it to a stop. For an emergency stop you just hold the lever over until the red light comes on.

You can use any make of distilled water. Don't get it mixed up with di-ionised or battery water. It HAS to be labelled 'distilled'.

Can you work a live steam train thing on any hornby track or do you have to get a special one for it

You can use any currently manufactured track. Just make sure the electrical connections are good.

If you have a largish (say 8' x 4') oval track and you like a challenge to become a real train driver, then the answer is yes.
If you just like owning a fine bit of engineering to run on a rolling road, the answer is still yes.
However, if you just want a loco that comes out of the box and is dead easy to run, then the answer is no...
