One of the greatest rock cartoonists of all time is back to indulge our senses.
Ray Lowry, the famous designer of the iconic album cover of 'London Calling' by The Clash, is about to hold an exhibition featuring brand new paintings alongside work going back over 40 years, at the See Gallery in Crawshawbooth from 12 September to 7 November.
Best known for the cartoons he contributed to New Musical Express and Punch magazine in the 1970s and 80s, the show will also focus on Ray's importance as a painter of urban landscapes.
The exhibition will also include a plethora of Ray's well-known cartoons, plus previously unseen oil paintings and fascinating glimpses into his notebooks as well as paintings and drawings from The Clash American tours.
Examples of Ray Lowry's work have previously been snapped up and admired by collectors and celebrities - included are the late great John Peel, Damien Hirst, Jon Squire, Patti Smith, Phill Jupitus, Don Letts and many more.
Many of the works are for sale, and will give art goers the opportunity to acquire an original piece of rock 'n' roll history.

Hi Tricia,Tony, well to say the news is a shock is a massive understatement. Ray to me was a man of immense talent, fierce intelligence, huge compassion and humility. I will always remember the many journeys we took to see him up in Rawtenstall and Waterfoot and the crazy escapades that ensued. I am privileged you introduced me to such a wonderful and talented human being and will never forget the happy times we all shared to together. RIP Ray ave a drink for us..
Shocking news, Tony.He designed the best ever cover for the best ever rock n roll album and that`s only scratching the surface. You`re blessed to have known him so well. Not much else I can say. R.I.P. Ray
watching this in new york. Thanks for posting. I used to read his cartoons in the NME on the bus going to punk rock gigs. Brings back lovely memories. It's a joy to see his paintings and that he had a go in colour. Am sad. Would love to see more close ups if possible. God bless.
Ray was the man, man. His work needed to be seen and just when it was...how like him to leave the stage before the applause. Good night Ray - yes, I loved you - you knew it.
I cannot believe the news. I'm so sorry for your loss. Just as he is getting his big break and the recognition he deserves. Take care Tony and Tricia. RIP Ray.
