yeah I think while Dan could point out the ridiculousness of all warrens claims and expand on each one, he knows hes talking to a group who isnt necessarily "on his side" and warren presented right before him.. so he just wanted to bring up the points in a way that would make you realize the fallacies for yourself, which is actually a VERY persuasive tool, if afterwords your saying to yourself why didnt he eat into him about this or that then hes made u realize 4 urself which is even better

Just standing on stage saying "I disagree, I disagree, I disagree..." is not very helpful. He should've explained specifically why Warren's ideas are so toxic to modern society.

Seriously? Did you even watch the video paxson? That you could listen to this whole thing and not hear a single point that he made is frightening. I'd urge you to consider your powers of analysis if you can't even hear and understand coherent points. I don't care that you disagree. I'm floored that you didn't even hear them at all. Warren's ideas are "toxic" because they are wrong. He explained exactly how. Whether they have good side effects or bad ones is irrelevant. Truth should be the goal.

Yes, I watched the whole video, and I agree with Dennett on probably every point here. I do think his rhetorical style, from 19:00 to the end especially, is weak. He's taking these ludicrous, pernicious statements by Warren and basically just saying over and over again that Warren is wrong and it's bad, but I think Dennett missed a knockout. He could have explained better just HOW and WHY these ideas do not deserve a place in our society. He treads too lightly on Warren's incompetence.

Fair enough. My apologies for misunderstanding your point. I think Dennett's points were pretty self evident, and explaining them would have seemed a bit condescending (to me), but sometimes you do need to clarify more completely. Dennett takes a much more laid back, scholarly, thoughtful approach and avoids getting muddy. It's great to have him around for those who are turned off by Dawkins, Hitchens, etc. He's so non-threatening that even the devout might listen for a minute.

an alternative to daniel's proposal is to ban faith based schools. what we're trying to do is defeat the ignorance created by the segregation of religions so we either adopt this man's policy or ban faith based schools. i say we do both.
