In my mind Kirk is still alive from the previous films and I could care less if they brought back Kirk and not stick to "canon" or whatever.
I feel like any TRUE Star Trek fan out there should feel the same way.
Generations was an abomination. I regret watching it. Bring back Kirk, Have him die in a respectful manner and let the news resonate everywhere in the Star Trek universe.
