well the language is not very diplomatic but you may actually be on the right track on a few things...homosexuals under the soviet regime found a nitch in many places, one of them WAS dance companies, like this perhaps and certainly the bolshoi ballet...it's a fact that under total regimes gays had to find ways to meet under 'cover' sort to say. artistic troupes was one. they tend to specialize in certain professions just so they could be left in peace...so you have a point but pls. no slurs. .
It's the Red Army Chorus, also known as the Alexandrov Chorus and they're better than ever. Second, though the troupe has probably included the occasional homosexual singer or dancer, as has every institution the world over, it ain't ballet; it's a bombastic style. Third, the troupe was all-male because it was Army-connected and because in Soviet times, keeping men and women from travelling abroad together lowered the chances of defection. The group now includes women; see their website.
i agree but i think you missed my point...i believe there were many gays in the USSR in this kind of artistic activity for the same reasons that there are gays in the fashion industry, the broadway theater and in hollywood in the West...no harm intended just an observation
I think you have a largely misguided misunderstanding of Slavic culture, including dance. I'm a former Ukrainian dancer so I know at least somewhat whereof I speak.
this film appears to be pretty old...i wonder if they still have such dance companies..under the soviet regime they were subsidized by the state...i doubt that such a company would make money nowdays...which is too bad..
