i know the problem... go to your local apple store and ask them if the cable you have is stable for your macbook. like if it can handle it... lol and they should give you a cord... buy it and try it again!

I had a similar problem but only when my macbook lid was closed. An update finally showed up sometime March, unfortunately it didn't solve my problem. At this point i had the laptop for about 3 month. I finally called Apple up and demanded they resolve my problem. I called in the passed about this problem so they knew i was fed up. They agreed to send me a brand new macbook and the unit i have now works fine. If you haven't already done it maybe you should call in and try to make it happen.

I'm using MBP 15" aluminium with an Apple 23" cinema display and the MBP is running on 9400M "better battery life" display mode.

Turning off "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep" in the Energy Saver preference pane for both Battery and Power Adapter profiles fixed the video static problem for me.

Really, DXm8? Where did you read that? Thx 'cause this could save me a trip to an Apple Store plus some headaches ;) !

Exactly the same thing happens to me on my new MacBook - good job capturing this, going to send to the 'product specialist' that is working on my support ticket.
