This man is a genius. Bowling at 161.3kph is an effort and a half. I love his brisky run up and the way he charges in. Shoaib akhtar is my mentor and someone who ill always look up to. You're my hero mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marshall has better average than Garner, Joel took 259 wickets @ 20.97, Malcolm took 376 wickets @ 20.94. Joel took 5 wks 7 times, Malcolm took 5 wkts 22 times & 10 wkts 4 times Joels best 6 for 56, Marshall"s 7 for 22. Garner top bowler but Marshall was special!
...it also depends how many tests you played! Garner played less. He didn't get the new-ball they say so he bowled at a disadvantage.
Anyway my friend, I miss those oh so special WI bowlers. The ones they have now by comparison are pathetic. I loathe England playing WI mainly because WI seem to look disinterested these days.
your point about the new ball is fair, whether he is as good, you can"t sniff at average of 20! the 1st series I watched seriously was 84 in England, seeing Beefy still haven"t seen a better character, larger than life, real lionheart! & the enigma Viv Richards, cocky as fuck but what a special player!
The 1984 WI V England series is so clear and distinct in my mind. I was only 12 at the time but I think the mind fogs a bit with age and latter events tend to merge!
Marshall is clearly your man and fair play to that - awesome bowler! I adored Garner, I loved the intimidation factor of the man all 6'8"! They both had brilliant stats.
Back then you had the delirious WI crowds and a brilliant atmosphere. All that has been lost somewhere - recent series' have SUCKED.
Yeah your 2 yrs older than me, but its the first one that sticks in my mind. Gower & co never had a chance, that West Indies team was really cooking, they ruined the atmosphere by banning the steel drums, fucking snobs. They would of had great scrap with Waugh"s Aussie team, hard to call! Only Pieterson gets me exicted in England team, he divides opinion but I think he is a bit Viv Richards like when really on form, Patrick Patterson was another nasty bowler who i rated!
Pietersen is brilliant and exciting, oh and controversial! He also happens to easily be the best England batsman in my time of watching test cricket. It's close but I think I'd pick Waugh's Aussies over the WI 80's team by a hairs breadth - mainly because of the truly awesome spin option of Warne. I don't think even Viv Richards would have seen anything like it.
Shocking to see the mid 80's Botham and how out of shape he looked. What could he have done without all the distractions????
I ain"t arguing for Thomson or any one else, its funny I got 3 negative thumbs, I"m only quoting Michael Holding, I feel his opinion is valid, being a fast bowler himself & having seen Jeff in the flesh! Marshall is personally one of my favourite"s could swing it both ways, & had brilliant bouncer, he is a sad loss & very missed. I was very upset when he died so young!
