Whatever isn't Kinetic energy, or any other types of energy, it remains to be potential energy. So energy, like matter, can't be created, only transferred. So, in conclusion, the most likely of answers is that it always existed.

Question about the classification of birds:
on the wikipedia article for dinosaur on the side it states "descendant taxon Aves survives to present," but at the bottom in a box of Archosauromorphs, it lists Dinosauria seperate from Aves under Avemetatarsalia and Ornithodira Archosaurs. I don't get it.
