Memorial to Dermot Morgan (Father Ted)
Although a celebrity in Ireland, Morgan's "big break" came, although late in life, in the shape of the title-role in the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted, which ran for three seasons from 1995. Writers Arthur Mathews and Graham Linehan developed the series from a character featured in the former's stand-up comedy act. The writers apparently specified Morgan as their first and only choice for the casting of the Father Ted character.Father Ted centred on three disparate characters. Father Ted Crilly was a financially dubious character living a frustrated life trapped on the island and played by Morgan. Famed Irish TV comedy actor Frank Kelly played the retired Father Jack Hackett, a foul-mouthed alcoholic, while dim-witted Father Dougal McGuire was played by new Irish comedian Ardal O'Hanlon. In addition to the three priests was their housekeeper, Mrs Doyle, played by Pauline McLynn, whom Morgan had worked with on Scrap Saturday.

I live in Plymouth Mass (vote Scott Brown on Tuesday) and I love Father ted. A crazy bunch of characters if ever there was! There aren't too many comedy shows that induce belly laughs! Now feck off!! Great series!
brilliant, i just wonder to myself do people outside of ireland appriciate the absolute genius behind the sketches and do they laugh at what could be said to be typically irish humour.. surely they do.. best show on tv, i just got the box set for xmas! im gona go watch it now!
@1hamcheese1 Absolutely... This show IS appreciated outside of Ireland.. It is a cult classic here in Australia as well... The box set has just been re-released on DVD.. Maybe it's because Australia has a lot of Irish heritage in it's history, but we still LOVE this show over here too... Pure brilliance...
I didn't mean bits just with Dermot, but I think the bits without him at all are kind of irrelevant in a tribute to him (as I said, most of this was just the final montage at the end of the series). I just think it'd be more fitting to actually compile some of his best bits.
