The point is the war on drugs, while not only being a stupid politician's phrase, is unwinnable. You will never eradicate drug use or drug dealing, no matter how many arrests are made, or how many kingpins fall. Why? [Cont]

Too many answers to give, really. But for one, if you pulled all the illegal cash out of the US economy, the US would collapse. It's a huge industry, and that profit has to go somewhere: Real estate, political fundraisers, big business, etc. So in a sense, even if you won "the war", you would still lose "the war". You are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Until prohibition ends, the bodies will keep piling up and the politicians will keep making speeches. But nothing will change.

It's true, after watching the whole of The Wire, you're left with this feeling that you've witnessed something truly incredible, and maybe even left with the notion that nothing you watch from then on will ever top it.

The idea isn't giving up the war against drug addiction or the destruction that drugs cause inner city communities. The point is that "war on drugs" as is carried out via law enforcement is unwinnable. The alternative, who knows, but as Charlie Brooker says the Wire doesn't offer trite simplistic solutions.

why not end inner city communities problems by paying them to move somewhere's else?.. aww shit I'm going to hell... but anyway's the biggest problems with drugs it seems to me are when drug addicts have children... but on the other hand ...
