it sounds like you had a bad connection somewhere in your dash cluster; and there's no reason why a window would continue falling off track unless it wasn't fixed correctly the first time it happened by replacing a regulator and tracking guides. break failure, eh? i dunno... more details would probably disclose a reason why that happened.
i own a 1990 DX model and i just hit 100k, and it runs like a champ! no problems whatsoever. regular maintenance is key.
