Saw Dicky Betts and his band Southern Allstars do this a few years back. They rocked it. This is one of my top ten favorite songs of all time and so great to see a video of it.
@tapeatsbill I have to agree w/you completely. Elizabeth Reed was the first song I heard the ABB play that I really connected with. I still do but have branched out w/them so much more since then. In spite of asking for it over and over again from the audience, they would not play it when I saw them in... oh, 1982? I was heartbroken.
Not sure but tthere may be somee bad blood between Dicky and Greg so maybe that's part of it. They do so many great songs and Duane still is one of my personal all time faves. Its all about the feeling and he played with such sweet feeeling!
This is a great video, timeless.. Steve Vai live is ten times faster, and not half as good. Time to break out my Live At The Fillmore CD now. Not many know the Allman Brother Band was the opening act at Live At Fillmore. The headliner, (and probably only guitarist who could pull it off), was Johnny Winter.
@diamondnight As I'm sure you already know, its not about speed. Its about feel and ABB had it in spades back then. I never felt Vai had as much feel in his music as he has talent in his technique.
Great Song by Dickie Betts - who told my mom (they shared my granny's driveway in Macon GA) that he wrote this on mescaline and that Elizabeth Reed's grave was where he met a hot married woman with whom he was having an affair.. Rock trivia you won't get from the media!
I visited their graves today and tomorrow is the 38th anniversary of Duane's death. It's an awe inspiring moment in life to stand there. Duane has a Les Paul carved on his grave. So sad to lose these two. 100 years from now people will still listen...

And this has to be about the greatest rock and roll concert that ever has been recored. Just a phenomenal band at the top of their game.
How this band came out of Macon Ga, is something I still can't figure out.
Peace on ya'll.
