It's rainy, and I mean REALLY rainy here today. I happened to see this video on youtube this morning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POy-V0... and I got inspired.
So, at dinner time tonight, I put Maddie and Ivie behind doors to eat, and took Josie's food bowl into the living room, along with a shallow bowl of water. I figured I'd just get her to touch her nose to the water or something along those lines tonight.
Took about ten clicks and she was reliably blowing bubbles in the bowl. (!!!) First I clicked for looking at the water. Then for hovering nose above water. Then she licked and I C/T for that. Then she licked a couple more times but I didn't click so she did an exasperted 'hmph!' by blowing through her nostrils right above the water Click-jackpot!!!!! & that's all it took. She was like "Oh, you wanted me to blow bubbles, why didn't you say so??"
My video camera isn't charged up so I didn't video the whole session since I wasn't planning on finishing out the trick tonight anyway. But when she started picking it up so quickly I just had to grab the point&shoot and get some crass video to share. So, this is the entire session, minus the initial ten clicks. One day I'll learn my lesson and always get ALL of a training session on film. I always underestimate Josie's psychic abilities -- !!!
You'll notice I don't give her a command for this in any of the video. After I tried (rather unsuccessfully) to do this with Maddie and Ivie, I brought Josie back out and asked her to do "Bubbles" about a half dozen times or so. So, I did give it a name, just not in the video.
As an aside: do not teach this on carpet. Why I thought this was a good idea I cannot tell you. Poor, wet, soggy carpet!!
