That's awesome that Eno likes Barry Lyndon, but he doesn't seem like he understands the movie very well!

I think that the movie Barry Lyndon by Stanley Kubrick is really about the rise and fall of Napoleon, not about Mr. Redmund Barry. Its just that this was the only way Kubrick could get the funding to make the movie, without it being panned as a bust such as was the fate of the film Waterloo.

much of the budget for the movie was in the grinding of really fast lenses, that scenes could be done with the light of one candle. The movie failed to achieve popularity, because it is a true period picture, depicting a time when people would take all day to get dressed, and people don't want a retro portrait of such a time, they want slam editing. but eno is known for his patience in art, so it doesn't surprise me that he likes this film...

There were no custom lenses ground for this film. Kubrick used Zeiss lenses that were designed for use in satellites.

A genius talking about another genius. Just great! BL & 2001 are the best of Kubrick, without any doubt.
