It is a two minute piece of Peg, a tri colour Border Collie, playing with her pups. It shows how she plays in a rough, play acting way with them and teaches each pup in turn that she is the boss and that they need to show respect to older dogs. In our DVD "well balanced pup" Sue Jones talks about her experiences with rehoming rescue dogs and that if a pup leaves its mum before 8 weeks it is less likely to have learnt these important early messages which can lead to it becoming fearful and aggressive to other dogs simply because it hasn't learnt the basics of dog language.

What a delightful video. Peg is a wonderful and joyful mother. I think this is my favorite among the thousands of puppy videos on youtube. It's lovely.
It would be nice to think that all puppies could have the sort of puppy hood that these puppies seem to be having . Both mum and her youngsters seem very happy with their rough and tumble play.
We are hoping that people planning a litter will be able to pick up some tips from the DVD about how important it is to let the pups stay with their mums until 8 weeks as they learn so much from her. Evidently dogs that miss out on this dog dog socialising are much more likely to misunderstand cues from other dogs and end up becoming frightened and then dog-dog aggressive.Lots of dogs end up in the rescue system through no fault of their own and many of the reasons can be prevented.
