The 2007 Left Forum came to a close Sunday in New York City. Each spring the Forum convenes the largest gathering in North America of the international Left. With close to one hundred panels and three major cultural events, the Left Forum brings together organizers and intellectuals from across the globe to share ideas. One of those who spoke was professor, culture critic, and social justice advocate Cornel West.
He has been described as one of America's most vital and eloquent public intellectuals. A professor of religion and African-American studies at Princeton University, West has written and co-authored numerous books on philosophy, race and sociology. His most recent book is "Democracy Matters: Winning the Fight Against Imperialism."
Video exerpt from the 3/13/2007 episode of Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman.

Race = Racism = White Supremacy = dominant sociomaterial system of the known universe in which each individual/independent, united person who classifies himself/herself and is accepted as white unjustly subjects to him/her all persons that he/she classifies as non-white. These individual/independent persons are united in this ultimate purpose. This system operates in all areas of people activity including economics, education, entertainment, labor, law, politics, religion, sex, and war.

Mr. West, Based on the 1860 Census how many Slaves were accounted for in the US? Let me answer for you, 4 million of a population of 31 million Americans. How many of those Former Slave Families were sent to Liberia by the American Colonization Society? Over 2 million. How many Black Americans owned African Slaves before the Civil War? 5% of Black Americans owned Slaves. There is a glaring flaw in your definition of White Slave Oppressors. You might want to check that one out.
"Left leaning" is a reference to the relative position of my, and others, views on economic control. This is in contrast to the alleged "far left" or "far right", the leaning or near is more centrist.
Yeah but what does that mean? I find the idea of being a "centrist" to be pretty absurd. To me its kind of like being alive or being dead, I guess one could say that dying or being a ghost is somewhere in between, but it doesn't really make sense. Not trying to say you don't have a legit point of view, just asking for an explanation.
"To me its kind of like being alive or being dead," Political views aren't so black and white.
"centrist" All that is, is the average of the current peoples views.
As for me, I like the benefits of the freemarket, but I think certain parts of it need to be socialized to prevent mismanagement from killing people. This along with certain regulations.
"All that is, is the average of the current peoples views." Thats where my problem is, though. The average of people's views in the U.S. at least would be pretty far to the right. So being on the center could mean either the center of national politics or the center of the political spectrum in general. Anyway I'm not trying to argue with you, so I'm sorry if I got us onto that track.
"The average of people's views in the U.S. at least would be pretty far to the right." True, and one could ask for the global average. However requesting some absolution average, doesn't work very well. Since we don't have a full understanding of the implications of each system. Political science is a very fuzzy thing, thus why identification by relative policies is the most accurate representation.
"I'm not trying to argue with you" Neither am I, its nice to just discuss things. ;)
