if i ever got to meet chuck, i wouldn't say anything. there is nothing i can say that he hasn't heard a thousand times before. i think this concert was his finest. really want to see him before he leaves us.
You have a valid point Mr.rbound827. Truth be told, everybody who makes it to the summit must first stand on the shoulders of their predecessors. Berry, Hendrix, or whomever, are not excluded from this axiom. Peace Profound!
msaintpc- Of course you are right. Mr Berry had his influences as well, and borrowed off of them. If anyone doubts that, just listen to Louis Jordans Aint that Just like a Woman from 1946. Perhaps you may recognize the guitar intro watch?v=gZpNT_xiX7Y
Chuck Berrys guitar licks are pretty much from T Bone Walker. Although Berry's genius was his lyrics aimed at the white teenagers, where he knew the money was.
Hi, rb. Every rock & blues artist after T-Bone utilized some of his licks, including Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Clapton, etc. Berry was able to synthesize his revolutionary approach by marrying T-Bone licks and a speeded-up Bill Doggett honkytonk timbre with unheard of lyrical style. He also incorporated all of that with a country accent. With that, the world was his. He not only appealed to caucasion teens, but to ALL who enjoyed this new version of rock. Now that's what real innovation is about.
Wow! Brother rbound827, you are one fortunate individual to be on the road. be careful with Chuck though, he may be up in age but, he's easily angered and can get mean. When you guys gig together in April, ask him if he remembers a 16 year old named Jason, who booked him for a concert in the LA / Long Beach area in 1971. Anyway, thanks for replying, and, enjoy your tour!
