Yes it's a true story. This was video footage from that moment back in the 70s. They sent the lion to Kenya to a man who would help Christian become a wild lion and make his own pride with other lions who were domesticated and also trying to become wild again. There was a 'documentary' type show on Animal Planet last week on Christian the Lion.
