I think the really defiant streak comes from the Picts. They fought everyone, kept the Romans out of Scotland and restricted Viking influence in Scotland; the Vikings later settled and assimilated. Picts, Gaels, Vikings, Saxons all became Scots. But yes, the Vikings are an important part of our heritage and yours too. All the best.
