"Blowfly's Rapp was first recorded in 1965 as a self press. It came out again as a self press in 1971 under Reid Records. After Rappers Delight came out in 1979, Henry Stone put the song out three times in 2 years as a TK 12 inch (Rapp Dirty is the clean side, Blowfly's Rapp is the dirty side), on the Weird World release Blowfly's Party as Blowfly's Rapp and Blowfly's theme and the Weird World release Butterfly as Rap Dirty."
PS-The whole Rap Dirty chronology is a mess. Blowfly's bio states that it was written in 1965. But there is no album that I can find with this alleged version. I did find the album Blowfly's Butterfly which has the song, but it was released in 1981 (although Rhapsody erroneously has it as 1975). There were allegedly single releases for Rapp Dirty in 1979 and Rap Dirty in 1980. Maybe there was an earlier album/single release. It's all a bit murky. It's redundant anyway.
THIS IS NOT THE FIRST RAP SONG. NEITHER IS RAPPER'S DELIGHT. The first ever rap song was recorded in 1965 by Clarence Reid aka Blowfly. It's called Rap Dirty. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Only found the version he re-recorded in 1980. I'm sure Rapper's Delight was not the first rap song. Never claimed it was, only that it was hit. As to the first, some people bring up Lead Belly. Someone mentioned a song from Sweden in the 1920s. But a distinction should be made between songs have no association with the rise of rap/hip hop as a distinct style of music in the late 70s onward and songs that are just arguably rap. The song was re-recorded in 1980 due to Rapper's Delight.
There was no rap song playing in 1965. The rap from Blowfly - RAP Dirty - has sounds and references to the mid to late seventies with the 10-4 good buddy lyric. 10-4 good buddy was highly popularized in the movie Smokey and the Bandit. It fits perfect for about 1980.

Hard to tell. Self press?
