The only thing I mentioned about the gas plug and the stripping of the rifle was that when DEATIL stripping (not field stripping), the gas cylinder plug was required to be removed when detail stripping the rifle and barrel, and or changing out the stocks, ask ANY Garand owner about detail stripping the barrel or changing out stocks, they'll always say you have to remove the gas plug first before proceeding....That's what I meant about stripping the rifle and the gas plug.
Firstly, there is no such thing as a "star key", what you're refering to is called the "gas cylinder plug", secondly I never said it was for field stripping, I said it was for plugging the gas cylinder and preventing gas from escaping, and that it can be adjusted at different levels of tightness when shooting different types of ammo, you loosen the gas plug slightly if using higher gain bullets, to allow some gas to escape and not hurt the rifle, and tighten it when shooting lower grain ammo
Yeah there is. You pull the op rod all the way to the back and on the left side of the receiver there is a clip eject button. Hit it and the clip and all remaining rounds will be ejected.
Depends on your certain tastes. But most people would choose Springfield. But remember that everyone's different. Study the guns and choose what's best for you. I personally prefer springfield myself, out of the two. Hope this helped.
Without ruining the receiver no. But you can get an M14 variant or an Italian BM-59, which I heard are rare. M14s are made by Springfield under the name M1A, LRB M14s, SEI M14s, Fulton Armory, and a few more.
The M14 and BM59 are evolutions of the Garand with a shorter receiver and chambered for the .308 Winchester round. They also have detachable magazines.
