That is such an attractive car, I would do anything to help save pontiac, I still can't believe they're doing away with them and there's nothing that can be done to save them. :( I personally think they should have done away with Saturn, I still don't think they've come out with attractive cars except the sky, which still isn't as good looking as the pontiac solstice.

@Declipse16
Well the Saturn Sky looks more aggressive than the Solstice.

Why can't they make an ad like this today, people would actually get excited!!!! Not with the bad ads we have now! I love the fire too.

But what I think is that as time passed, they got in new managers who cared more about profits and saving money (e.g. by sharing so much across the different divisions), guys who weren't true car enthusiasts. The way simplified everything reflected that. They might as well have been selling light bulbs. I can only tell you that when I was younger, we thought of Pontiac, Olds, etc. as totally different cars; we didn't think "oh, a Pontiac, that's just another GM car".

They went and focused on trucks and forgot about the car lines- I guess they thought the cars would sell themselves without advertizing and more frequent model changes? But of the divisions, I would have thought Pontiac would have survived and not Buick. Pontiac still had an identity as the sporty division for younger people. However they also rebadged cheap Chevys as Pontiacs (e.g. Sunfire) instead of trying to be more upmarket (e.g. in the 70s offering a car like the Grand Ville).
