i checked out a book of old comic archives, and this was in it! the movie left out a few panels though, and he roared like a lion when his dad was shaving

Classic UPA at it's best. I think some people are taking the story a bit too literally though, it's supposed to be a metaphor: UPA were trying different methods of creating animations, along with convincing people to take the medium seriously as a 2D art form. Gerald's struggle is thiers:Gerald's natural reaction to express in a way nobody else understands is symbolic for right-wing conventionalists in mainstream animation rejecting new ways. But eventually he is accepted and loved. like UPA.

Hey, yeah, I know it's such a shock to see the YouTube comment section getting of topic...
