not true. you can take it home. But it is NOT street legal, so you could only drive it on a track. But if you leave it with them, they do all the maintenance on it plus supply a pit crew at the races. so, yes it only makes sense to leave it there. the same with the "used" F1 cars, most owners leave them at the factory and travel there to drive them on the track.
