If where going to name drop here. Tang soo do, judo, BJJ, kickboxing, wrestling, and starting muay thai. Id tag you anywhere i want, iv done both point sparring and real mma and if anything point sparring just teaches you how to play tag, in fact you have to completely learn a different (pussy) way of fighting before doing a point sparring tournament
Yea, I hear ya, and it's frustrating to call that "fighting," because key attributes (durability, pain tolerance) get overshadowed by speed (often sacrificing recoil and defense).
Still needs crazy skills, but not the same sets needed for realistic fighting.
I don't really consider it "fighitng" either to be honest. I want them to get away from the "playing tag" aspect and get back to some real full contact fighitng, but with safety precautions. Full contact Shotokan and Kyokoshin fights are where it's at. Check my profile for a few in my favorites if you'd like.
NO it is not. It needs to be balanced out with realistic training also, but it is NOT pointless. The biggest things a person gain from being a good point sparrer are being able to break an evasive opponent's defense, and also being able to hit an opponent where ever you like at will. I don't care how hard a person kicks or punches; if you can't kick or punch me, that person is finished because I can punch and kick you at will. Point sparring helps make you a sharpshooter.
It is pointless, because people just lean back and turn to there side so its almost imposable to hit and get a point. I don't care if you can tag me any place you want. Im going to smash your legs and sides to break you down untill you cant use any of your speed then im going to kick you in the face. Ask any real master that does mma, point sparing helps for shit in a real fight.
I do karate, Judo, BJJ, and boxing. You can't tag me in my legs if I keep moving. Anyways, I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise. Lol, but like I said, if you can't hit me exactly where you want, that's the difference between a clean K.O. or just a shot that may or may not hurt me. And you don't want to stand squarely unless grappling is allowed in a fight; you shrink your target area when you stand sideways. About eliminating speed, you have to hit a fast guy first. Look at B. Lee
I think MMA stands more for the two fighters being able to choose their own style, rather than having to use a specific one for the match. No one person can have an MMA style, but an organization can.
