Of course Kubrick was influenced by Ophüls. Stanley was smart. He was also a great, if not the greatest, American film director. If only more current directors were as influenced as Kubrick.

thats what all directors want inside is outside and vice versa and only one achieved it! not even monsieur kubrick, who stole from max ophüls like crazy lol

so true man,kubrik stole the shit out of max,godard too..but godard aproached max's natural flow of images & feelings on a more naturalistic & effective way than kubrik with le mepris...in the apartment scene the camera work was flawless & wasnt an intruder between the characters,more like max's style. kubrik was GREAT but sometimes the camera felt too forced to interact with those AWFUL acting style on his films,the result was more like an industrial film rather than the natural flow of images

truth....all in all...my favourite is godard...but i loooooooved dr strangelove & 2001...awesome movies...masterpieces
