So when you have artists who go against what Hip Hop was built on, founded on and stood/stand for, how can you call that Hip Hop? MANY people think it's just a genre, but it's not. It's one thing to rap, but for it to be Hip Hop, it has to have something in it, something of upliftment, enlightenment, intellect, intelligence or at least teaching something, however simple it may be. Many artists give Hip Hop a bad name, because they don't rep it! Hip is the knowledge & growth, Hop is the movement.
BigPGrizzly said it best. Hip Hop is NOT just a genre, rapping(a form of slam poetry with to a beat R.A.P=Rhyme and Poetry or Rhythm And Poetry) is a part of Hip Hop. Hip Hop is a culture, it started with Graffiti artists who tried to enlighten by their phrases(illegal as it was though), then Kool Herc started with the beats. Beatboxing is also a part of Hip Hop culture. It's a movement and it was a means of rebelling against unjust society & black empowerment. Learn ya shit!
Soulja Boy is the pinnacle of hip hop. I personally am one of Soulja Boy's BFFs (he has declared me a BFF, officially) and we are also in love, thank you.
