Im definitelly not enlightened and sometimes I question if I should seek for that. Im more interested in clean myself of all BSs (belief systems) to then be free to really see life.

It is not about caring for living things, because you could categorize even atoms as living.
It is that we cannot interrupt one's life willingly and in such ways as it is done in industrial agriculture nowadays. This includes only beings that have will, feelings (brain, nervous system) and are subject to life. What makes me wonder is that those who say that plants to have feelings too claim all non-human animals to be closer to plants than humans. If you believe in evolution, it can't be true.
