Richer was intimidated, he was also in the same position 2 years later when he fought Wallace a second time around in Toronto. The fight lasted 7 minutes and of course Wallace won. Because of the lack of full contact matches in Canada Richer was not quite prepared. Wallace outweighed him by ten pounds. . Daniel was still one helluva fighter in those days, he was even rated in the top 10 by many U.S. fighters in Official Karate's top ten fighters of all time.
Wallace actually fought Grothe first, then Richer. I saw this tournament on ABC back in December 1974. Seeing these bouts again after all these years, I'm reminded of Grothe's feistiness. Wallace clearly outclassed him, but Grothe gave every thing he had. Richer, as I'd recalled, seemed somewhat intimidated from the get-go. Though by reputation a superb kicker, he couldn't seem to get started against Superfoot --
