It certainly feels somewhat unifinished, but perhaps it was one of those projects that was abondoned due to the difficulty of continuing, it seemed to end so delightfully that it would be difficult to further without losing direction and pace.

Actually, he wrote the first two movements when he was 25. He lived another 6 years and wrote his Symphony No. 9 in C Major but, for some reason, never finished Symphony No. 8.

actually he just stopped working on it he wrote a complete 9th symphony, just didn't want to work on it.
