This recording is really too slow! It seems to be standing on one place. I'm not one who needs an incredible fast tempo, but this is too much! And it seems to be very uninspired (every note is played as there is no connection to the other ones) --> well it's Harnoncourt conducting Bach Vocalworks! He was never the best in that! He is a better Handel conductor!
How fast would you like it to be - and can you recommend a recording that is at the faster tempo and which retains the clarity of this one from choir, soloists and orchestra?
Well let's see Hickox, Suzuki, Hengelbrock, Koopman, Gardiner and these were just the conductors who use choirs. All of them about 30 seconds faster than this recording and musical better and also the choirs are perfect! McCreesh is too fast in my opinion (1 minute faster than Harnoncourt) but he uses just the 5 singers as "choir".
