I sometimes hit my captain with Strangelove quotes just to fuck with him. He tells me to do something, I say [heavy on the theatrical German accent], "It would not be difficult, mein Fuhrer!"

He hasn't seen the movie, so he thinks I'm just batshit crazy.

It appears that (Merkwurkdigliebe) Dr. Strangelove was Adolph Hitlers top science officer.

This is just one of so many brilliant scenes in the movie ... The other standout scene is the conversation between the President and the Soviet Premier -- "It's good to be fine ... One of our generals ... well he went a little 'funny in the head'" -- timeless!

Why is the Russian ambassador still taking spy pictures at the end?

So the Soviet Union can continue the Cold War against the USA and the British Commonwealth in 100 years when the radiation levels have gone down.

Satire to the extreme. The hotheaded and paranoid nature of the US government is poked at throughout the film. That scene reverses it and shows the the Russians are just as much like their stereotypes as the Americans. Makes the whole Cold War look ridiculous.

Thats part of an onrunning joke, along with George C Scott's brilliant US general character, he is still governed by his cold war insticts despite the imminant destruction of mankind making all that pointless.
Gen Buck Turgidson's rant where he voices his fears of the creation of 'a mine-shaft gap' is classic satire.
My favourite comedy film of all time, run close by 'This is Spinal Tap'.

As others have stated, Black Isle got inspiration from this movie when they made the first two Fallout games. Especially The Enclave, the bad guys of Fallout 2 and 3 are directly copied from Strangelove's suggestion. America's elite dug in for 100 years (they were 100 years underground in the game, too) when they would return to beat Communism once and for all (the general's point). Those who know the series know what I mean.
