They put the shoes there on purpose, mainly because this movie was meant to portray the fact that she was a teenager at the time, and was not necessarily historically accurate.

wowo i would usethose shoes nowadays.wondering wo kept al those wonderful costumes.i bet kirsten dunst could had some ,if i were in her i would have stolen em especially the pink one in the church and the one she has when she left home

Marie paid a dowry of 300,000 crown in gold. This was worth millions and many many millions of dollars back then. She never bought the big spender stuff (jewels) just cake, fabric and shoes. I say, she paid for it all herself. She died in her 40's. I doubt she'd even got to spend it all. (Women should not have had to pay dowries back then to begin with). Marie was an innocent woman. Besides, who are a bunch of barbarians to declare what is crime? France was ahead in Europe with democracy, peace.
