how can you praise Trane for leading a movement that "broke with standard time signatures and harmonics" then turn around and dog Shepp by saying "He has no chops nor grasp of harmony and he does not swing" You sir, are an asshole (also Ornette was doing it before Coltrane).

PART 2 :
Coltrane with Archie ad Pharoah did some awesome performances. Archie had a raw sound that was unique and expessive. But Archie has not grown one inch as a performer or master of the saxophone. His sound now is just plain unpleasant. He has no chops nor grasp of harmony and he does not swing. He sings third rate blues to bullshit his way through a performance. He is clearly riding on the cred he developed with Trane 40 years ago... Keni

For a guy who's supposedly been around a long time you sure like to talk shit about somebody. Are you jealous or something? You're acting like you're 12, and you're old enough to be my grandfather. I guess some people never grow up.

As a jazz saxophone player I consider Archie Shepp to be the King of the Bullshitters. In the 60s he and I played on the same concerts. My group, as his was at the time, was also experimenting with approaches to Jazz that broke with standard time signatures and harmonics. John Coltrane led this movement and Archie, along with Pharoah Sanders, played with Colrane. I knew 'Trane... PART 1 of 2 -- Keni Washington

Archie split his lip open in the early 80's and had to have surgery on his mouth. He's had some embouchure problems since but has continued to deliver inspired performances...
