"Bright" was used in the original Broadway production, and, is still used on stage. however, the movie changed it to "gay" so that it would rhyme with "today", since Tony visits her BEFORE the rumble (which was at night) in the movie.
for those who are concerned with the lyric change, please note that these are indeed the lyrics to another verse in the song. the infamous and long-time quoted "gay" verse was probably not used inorder to keep from offending those who would find such a thing offending or keep from mentioning a normally taboo topic
The commercial presents a majestic woman appreciated and envied for her beauty when she is off he courts, and respected and feared for her passion and her determination when on the courts. Grace and beauty and character can all go together, as she exemplifies.
A remarkable commercial. BTW it should have said ^oh so pretty and witty and gay^ (not bright), followed by ^I feel pity for any girl that isn't me today" -- this is taking place during the day. ( My tastes are definitely bourgeois).
Good sir, you have made an excellent point! Thus opening my, somehow, closed mind to view, what simply appears to be, a meaningless television advertisement for some doubtly philosophically concerned commercial products, as a beautiful & realistic interpretation of one's, &, also, most probably by the, I fear, majority of people, shallow view of high-profile individuals, based only by their, shall I say, "looks".
Of courve, you've determined that, let me humbly paraphrase, beauty & character may find themselves united in one person. As pictured & examplified, here, by Ms. Sharapova.
Let this comment be an epitome of my spiritual enlightenment & eternal appreciation to your great mind.
