it's swearing ... technically the french word "putain" is similar to 'slut' in english .. but the expression is used as 'Damn', 'Shit' or 'Fuck' ... to stay polite ... lol
So they'll use the expression when ... let's say ... they missed the bus, so they'll say something like: "Ah putain, j'ai raté le putain de bus' (meaning "Damn, I missed the fu** bus")
