lotenma, The nazis were landlocked by the British & USA fleets. Hitler could not invade Britain. USA & British aircraft production was tremendous, and in 1944 USA alone produced by some estimates~96,000 aircraft. Hitler declared war on the USA. Eventually Allies would have gained air supremacy, and Germany had lost acess to necessary metal alloys due to the Allied naval blockade. So, the war would have lasted much longer without Hitler's mistake of invading the USSR.

christof139;
if there would not have been an eastern front, there would be no bombing at all, because than Germany would have taken GB aswell and there wouldn't be an airfield for the US bombers right?
There wouldn't be a D-day neither for the same reasson.

Check your facts my friend. GB defended herself and won the battle of Britain before the Nazis turned east and opened the eastern front. In other words Hitler's objective early in the war was to invade the UK then he could turn east and with no fear. He tried but was beaten back. It was the Nazis first ever taste of defeat and it was dealt out to them by the British in 1940 whilst Hitler and Stalin were still pretending to be friends.

nash3timemvp. There would have been a D-Day regardless of the Eastern Front exisiting or not, but it would have taken quite a few more years and more strategic bombing of Germany and increased Navla activity such as blockading the north German ports to stop Swedish iron ore etc. from entering Germany. Once we had the A-bomb it may have been used quite a few times on the nazis. Hitler was a lunatic and bit off more than he could chew, and it happened the way it did for a reason perhaps.

correction, germans were closer to aquiring the A bombe than americans this is why the d-day was constructed so quickly. and also to relief the russian front by obliging hitler to bring half his army in western wurope

Nazis were not closer to aquiring the A-bomb than the USA. In fact, it didn't matter if the Brits had or had not bombed the nazi heavy water plant, it didn't matter because the nazis had not advanced as far as the USA had in overall developement of the A-bomb.
