you can eat it, it is completely safe and yes, if your pour colored water into it, it will turn a softer pigment of that color.

cut open a diaper and where the cotton is in it cut it open and get all the cotton out, and put water on it and its the same thing,dont go to the mall and waste 40 bucks :P
