Hey, This is the first ever Jackie I heard playing so cool, shall I say. Could this be because of the nature of the tune or being with Mal?

This was the song - it's the first cut on the album pictured at the beginning of this video - that made me realize Jackie McLean was a great player. With Waldron I already knew; I'd seen him play duets with Steve Lacy. When Lacy would finish soloing, Waldron would start soloing while the cigarette from the ashtray on his piano would spiral up behind him; with his white hair and dim lights, the image of him playing blended in exquisitely with his haunting and soulful solos.

I can't believe that I am hearing this for the first time. What a beautiful composition. Jackie Mc Clean on the as has a great tone.

Billie Holiday wrote the lyrics for this tune so it must have been written with her in mind. Abbey Lincoln recorded this with Mal on her Candid recording 'Straight Ahead'. Coleman Hawkins blows beautifully that recording too. The OP posted that too so check it out and give him/her a thank you!

I think Her recordings with Mal are among Her best, if not best of all
