the only time i've ever heard metal on the radio was when my mate went to work on a local community radio station for work experience, and on the last day he got a 1 hour slot to talk about metal and play some tracks. pretty awesome experience for him, but i would've tried harder than him to get some of the least radio friendly stuff played. like deicide - blame it on god, cannibal corpse - death walking terror, a burzum song and some pornogrind song bout necrophilia.

not that i really like any of the stuff i just named there. i'm much more into southern, stoner, psychedelic and blues/ blues-rock style metal, but i'd lol my fuckin face off. and then probably get kicked out of the station.
