Bravo Mireille, je suis heureux que je vis à cette époque-là quand tu chantes, je suis très content que je peux entendre et voir ton oeuvre. Je remercie et salue tous qui a exposé les video sur le site. Alexandr. La Russie.
i am always left puzzled by people who deny the beauty of what they see and the beauty of what they hear. Surely Mlle.Mathieu has proved herself over the last 40+ years to be 'singularly' her own person, and as much as I treasure E.Piaff, MM is a much stronger one. One thing is for sure, as has been said by many other contributors, Nobody sings, or ever will sing like Mlle.Mathieu. If I am proved wrong, I will go back to playing my old Bill Haley and the Comets 78's on my very old gramophone.
Absolutely agreed. Will the next great French singer post-Mimi be called a pale immitation of Mireille? Such shallow criticism reveals too much about the complaining person.
Miss Mathieu is often accused by her detractors of being nothing but a cut-rate imitation of Edith Piaf. No doubt, Piaf strongly influenced Mathieu (who openly admits the influence). Whether one prefers one's voice to the other's is a matter of personal aesthetic judgment. However, I think that videos like this one demonstrate beyond any doubt that Miss Mathieu is the more versatile performer. Can anyone seriously imagine Edith Piaf doing this number?
It doesnt dteract from Piaf to say these things-Its just that Piaf has been eclipsed several times over by the sheer superior quality, duration, versatility and global appeal of Mireille Mathieu.Only that.
