today's society only wants simple boring and very generic music so that they can easily relate to it without puting a little, if any thought into it

Truthful words right there. I think it's a symptom of the shallowness of our contemporary society. Music becomes like fast food. Most of the shit is coming from the US, but things like Agalloch prove me that not all American means misquality.
