Joshua the dark mark can also be described as a something like a bite, its like if you had removed a little piece of the material inside, the ''bite'' is what makes the lock fit and open.
It looks like this [ or ] removed from inside.
On my briefcase it was white, so the color it doesn't matter what matter most is if you can find a ''BITE''

Haha! I used this to open the company's cash box that they forgot the combination to! Very good, although sad that it's that easy to crack. Took me less than 5 minutes with a screw driver that had an attached flash light so I can move each number to the left and see the right-hand notches.
