Iraq is a tragedy because of all the innocent blood spilt. We did mwhat we thought was neccesary at the time but it all just turned out to be military pawns and prawns

Democracy can come, but only through the blood of the people who demand it. The "mighty ship of state" has made sure of that, every time the people rose up and kept saying "yes" about an issue when the state said "no".

And yet the people continue to give more and more power to tyrants and their bureaucrats. It amazes me, how the population keeps electing them, despite being constantly disappointed with them. Every time thinking, somehow, this time, this new tyrant will do what we want for us.

No. That was mob-rule and closer to fascism. As was the slave-trade, our civil war, and the 3rd world wars of agression carried out now on every continent including N. America. The Federalists conveniently forgot the 3 'God-given' inalienable rights inherent in all persons when adopting our constitutional 'Bill of Rights'. The true cost of freedom is fairness. That is, equality for ALL under law...It's almost like the British are still running things and our revolution has been hijacked.

I was basically talking about the general feeling of the Afghan people before and after the invasion. During the invasion the Mujehadeen didn't like the US or the Soviet Union, but were willing to accept aid. After the war had ended it became extremely clear why the US sent aid, and so the resentment grew deeper. I'd say that bringing the Soviet Union to war was more politically and personally motivated by the higher ups in the US government. Vietnam was a thorn in the US' side, it made sense.

@pfizzbones Ppph. Ever check up fundamentalist Catholicism or some of the Evengelical Puritan movements? Both bear startling resemblance to Christian movements 300-500 years ago and to some factions of Islam to which you refer; not all Christians, and certainly not all Muslims, are extremists-in-waiting. Don't paint them as such.
